I agree. I mean I love bells and whistles as much as anyone, but I feel like there's a lot of entitlement with social media. Maybe you don't want it fast and slick, maybe you want to be well protected and be able to back up your archives safely and not have your content policed based on X country's laws or a political movement. Fandom used to print out its content on paper and share it under tables, moderate itself to its own rules, and now people want it spoonfed to them when the truth is we should be compromising, going back to earlier models (like Dreamwidth for example) rather than give in to the constant thrust of capitalism. It isn't going to work unless fandom as a whole is willing to make those compromises, and at the moment it seems like it isn't.
